Leap and a Quilt Will Appear

Hello! I’m Ellen Ault and in 2016 I took a leap.  I was a computer animation instructor for 13 years, teaching animation and art to college students. Everyday I worked on the computer and felt the need to make something physical with my hands.  Handmade3D was born in 2009.  I began with plush design and selling at comic conventions.  When my daughter was born in 2010 I was pulled into the world of quilting and never looked back.  I took a leap, leaving my role as a college instructor and delving into the world of fabric.

I am a Professional Longarm Quilter.

Drawing with Thread – Longarm Quilting

I love to quilt and want to turn flat fabric into texture and dimension.  If I’m not in front of my HandiQuilter Amara longarm, I am sewing on my Pfaff machine.  Fabric and thread are my favorite artistic tools to use. I love scrap quilts and use as much color as possible. I create original designs, adapt patterns, and sew whatever I can find. I custom longarm quilt for local and mail-in clients and make memory and custom quilts, hopefully for you!

My quilting + your quilt top = quilt magic!

See my work!

My work has been published in the UK magazine Love Patchwork and Quilting and in the national magazine STUFFED.  I write articles for Quilting Hub. I have had quilts hang in a national shows, such as World Quilt Florida, AQS Spring Paducah, and other AQS Exhibits. I won the Best Longarm Machine Workmanship award for the Florida Competition at World Quilt Florida, January 2018.  My work has been seen in multiple galleries in the Tampa area. In a previous life I sold my plush toys at conventions in Tampa and Orlando areas, as well as online.

I am the Quilt Studio Manager for MK Quilts, a HandiQuilter retailer in Palm Harbor, Florida.  We offer longarm quilting services for edge to edge quilting and custom computerized quilting. MK Quilts also offers extensive training on ProStitcher, HandiQuilter’s computerized quilting software.

I am a lifelong teacher.  I teach quilting classes and visit guilds to inspire with my Colorific lecture. I taught computer animation at The Art Institute of Tampa from 2007 to 2017.  You can download my CV here: Ellen Ault CV .
